The beginning of a new year is often a time to look forward to what we want to achieve for the year ahead, with health and wellness hopefully being near the top of the list. Here at Lifestream we are passionate about health and wellbeing so we have created a list of our top 5 health trends to watch out for in 2019. Give them a try – they may be just what you need for a happier, healthier 2019!
- Living a plant based lifestyle.
This works on multiple levels, from food to body products to cleaning products and beyond. Maybe you choose to give up “food with a face” to eat only a plant based diet, to have a few “meat free days” a week, to increase the amount of fruit and vegetables you eat daily, or to only choose supplements made from a natural plant source. A move to natural plant based products for use on our body supports our health by reducing the toxic, chemical load not only on our body but also the environment.
- Digital detoxing
The fact that we tend to spend too much time on our digital devices is now common knowledge. We are realising the physical and emotional impact of working long hours, and our dependence on our devices not only for work but also in our downtime. Digital detoxing involves making a conscious effort to have time away from phones, i-pads, laptops, TV, the internet to take time to reconnect with ourselves, our friends and family to actually live in the moment and experience it fully.
- Sustainable living
This is all about knowing where your ingredients/products/supplements come from, how they are grown, and that they are sourced in a way that is sustainable, ethical and protects our planet for the future generations to come.
- Digestive wellness
If our digestion is functioning at its optimum level then we digest our food easily and have access to the important nutrients from our food for our daily processes, energy, immunity and healing. Understanding how to support our digestive wellness through diet, prebiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes and herbs, and soothing tonics like Aloe Vera not only has an impact on our digestion but also our immunity, mood and overall wellbeing.
- Connecting with nature daily
Part of creating balance and wellness in our lives is our connection with nature. Finding time each day to experience and interact with nature has a huge benefit on our mental and physical wellbeing. It doesn’t need to take a lot of your time and can be as easy as taking your shoes off and standing on the grass for a few minutes. Go for a walk at the local park, a swim at the beach, do some gardening, sit with your back against a tree and just breathe, lie on the grass and watch the clouds. Get out there and enjoy the pure beauty that nature gifts us.
